This model shows the relationship between tryptophan levels and production of the five enzymes used to synthesize it. The five enzymes are encoded on the repressible trp operon. When tryptophan is present, the operon is repressed and enzyme production stops. When tryptophan levels drop, the operon can be transcribed, which will once again raise tryptophan levels.
