This diagram was created to understand themes present in the text analysis of grounded theory qualitative data. This allows a visual presentation of data from semi-structured interviews completed as part of a dissertation.
The following is a small part taken
from an attempt to determine the thematic data:
The research problem is substance use. All participants entered treatment with some relapsing and some becoming sober. Relapse could lead to being asserted, going to court and receiving a sentenced. Sentencing varied on many factors. A few spent their time thinking about their lives and decided they weren’t invested in recovery; others re-entered treatment and became sober. Those not invested in recovery had a variety of consequences. Some participants changed their actions.
See what you can make of the model at. The blue lines are positive behaviors. The red are negative behaviors. Do not compare the narrative and the visualization. The visual is simply a description of what the diagram initially showed.
Notice the arrows in the diagram. Blue is a positive action; red is a negative action. Some themes led to negative actions and reversed to positive ones.
