This illustration is intended as a
visual support for an article on Instrumentalism and Systems Thinking. Instrumentalism is a view in philosphy about the nature of knowledge that scientific investigations can provide. It is the same kind of knowledge one might
expect from a systemic enquiry. There is
a clear analogy between the practical
knowledge and value obtained from
scientific knowledge according to instrumentalism and the
kind of knowledge one could
expect to obtain from a systemic enquiry. Neither type of enquiry has the objective to
establish the ontological status of the theoretical entities they posit i.e. if
they exist in reality.
