HANDY Model of Societal Collapse from Ecological Economics Paper 

This is a model depicting Durham region waste management. It shows 4 types of waste, what township they come from, and how much comes from each of the 3 townships in the Durham Region with a Durham Region-owned waste management facility. The garbage leftover from each township after removing everything recyclable, compostable, and reusable, is sent to the Durham York Energy Center to create energy from the garbage. 

This simple model will attempt to demonstrate how modern civilization's groundwater practices are unsustainable and how they are affected by the changing climate.

It is intended as an educational systems-thinking example that helps users understand how improvements in environmental management can contribute to healthier populations and more sustainable healthcare systems. The model can be expanded to test different policy scenarios and evaluate their long-term effects on environmental and health indicators.

A logistic model projecting the human population of Oshawa, Ontario 100 years into the future (2026–2126). The stock starts at an estimated 200,000 people in 2026, scaled up from Oshawa's 2021 census population of 175,383 and the City's 2023 estimate of about 185,000 people. Per-capita growth is density-dependent: it equals the maximum birth rate minus the minimum death rate, scaled down as the population approaches a carrying capacity of 340,000 people set by Oshawa's land supply, housing and infrastructure limits. A five-year delay represents the lag between a population change and its effect on growth. The model produces an S-curve, reaching roughly 273,000 people by 2051 and levelling near 337,000 by 2126.
