Minimal model of glucose kinetics by Bergman, used to calculate insulin sensitivity from an Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test (IVGTT). Plasma insulin I(t) enters a remote compartment X(t) where it is active in accelerating glucose G(t) disappearance into the periphery and liver, and inhibiting hepatic glucose production. Adapted from Minimal Models for Glucose and Insulin Kinetics: A Matlab implementation by Natal van Riel, Eindhoven University of Technology 2004 by Mark Heffernan.

This model looks at changes in ED attendances/ GP referrals over time and then  calculates the expected level of emergency admissions/ bed days that would result.

The model is split into different age groups as they have different seasonality patterns and growth rates

Rich picture version of causal loop diagram for medication errors, showing the importance of reporting, analyzing and fixing knowledge and process errors. Medication errors will tend to grow due to the use of more medications in more complex patients. This is exacerbated by the loss of staff knowledge by turnover and goal erosion in places with harmful errors.
